Newzealand Corporate Partner FY19

We pride ourselves on offering you a real, personal service - real humans to answer your questions and guide you through your practice management system. We are a small specialist team with extensive legal industry knowledge, and we're here to help. Let us introduce ourselves.

Phil Johnson, Chief Executive Officer

Phil is a self-confessed “serial entrepreneur” who left school at 15 and hasn’t stopped creating companies since. He is known for finding needs and working to fill them - demonstrated in his portfolio of six successful companies throughout New Zealand and the United Kingdom – and it was through his specialised IT company, CommArc, that OneLaw was born. He partnered with Doug Thomson and two others to start OneLaw, and after three tough years of development they went to market with a product that is now rapidly gaining momentum. When Phil isn’t running around the country with his business hat on, you’ll catch him mountain biking or spending time with his wife and their two children.

Doug Thomson, Chief Architect

Doug is a born businessman who grew up on a farm near Winton, Southland. He co-owned one of the first desktop PC sellers in Invercargill, before moving to the ‘big smoke’ of Christchurch, looking for a change. He found that in software consulting, working for Baycom Software Laboratories Limited (the original developers of LAWbase), and ended up managing the company. It was in 2009, while working for IT consultancy CommArc that Doug was approached by a few legal clients looking for a modern practice management system to replace their old system. Recognising the time was ripe for a new offering he, along with three fellow founders got the ball rolling, and a few years of really hard work later – here we are. While he is passionate about his work, Doug is also a family man whose top priorities are his wife, three sons, and his love of cooking and playing guitar.

Sally_cropped.jpgSally Rossiter, OneAuthor Manager

Sally spotted a need for customised Microsoft Word templates more than 25 years ago, and has been working off and on to solve this problem ever since. Sally manages OneAuthor, creating easily-customised templates using macros, and works with clients to personalise these for their firms. Sally has a bubbly personality and is a favourite with clients. She loves hiking, biking and swimming in the ocean, and eats way too many chilli peppers (for breakfast sometimes, we might add). While Sally is the team’s token American, she agrees that Kiwis make a much better coffee.

Emma-Jane McLennan, Sales & Marketing Manager

Emma-Jane arrived at OneLaw in 2016 with a background in journalism and lots of enthusiasm for working in a new industry. Her priority is creating solid relationships with customers and prospects, so she is always happy for a chat and your thoughts on how we can improve our service. Outside of work, EJ can usually be found buying houseplants, playing hockey, running on Christchurch's beautiful Port Hills or spending time with family and friends.

Michael_cropped.jpgMichael Thompson, Service Delivery Manager

Michael is an IT manager with more than 10 years’ experience in the industry, who came to OneLaw following several successful management stints across New Zealand and Australia. He is a dependable and down-to-earth team member who clients know they can rely on, and says he loves his job because “no two days are ever the same.” Michael is a family man with three young children, who enjoys scuba diving when he has the time – and even fossicking for gold on the wild West Coast.

Trudi Wilmshurst, Implementation & Support Manager

Trudi brings a wealth of knowledge to the business from her 20+ years’ experience in the law industry. She has worked as a user, trainer and consultant of practice management software, and has a thorough understanding of client needs from these experiences. Trudi has a ‘can-do’ attitude and a positive outlook on life. While she is a self-confessed petrol head with a love for motor racing, she also enjoys pilates, yoga and long walks on the beach.

Mark_Cranness.jpgMark Cranness, Software Developer

Mark is a 100% certified computer geek (he says so himself) with more than 30 years of experience in the industry. He was shoulder-tapped to create the OneLaw data migration tool late in 2011, and soon became quite indispensable for the business. While we may not always understand the techy lingo he uses, we do get one thing: He’s good at what he does. When Mark isn’t supposed to be working, he can’t help it, chances are you’ll still find him working on a computer of some sort.

Nadine_cropped.jpgNadine Banfield, Support & Training Consultant

Nadine has a comprehensive background in the law industry, working for more than 15 years in trust accounting/trust admin roles and supporting legal software prior to starting at OneLaw.  She is meticulous in everything she does – something she displayed outside of the workplace when she took on the job of completely designing her family home (with no prior experience) after the Canterbury earthquakes hit.  When asked what she does in her free time, she laughed: “I have two kids, work for OneLaw, do the accounts/bookwork for our own business and am an active member of our primary schools PTA”.

Jo_cropped.jpgJo Cleminson, Support & Training Consultant

Jo has an extensive background in law firms both in New Zealand and overseas, working in trust accountant and administration roles, which has given her a solid understanding of law firm needs. She has been with OneLaw since 2011, and is known for her friendly professionalism. When she’s not at work she enjoys time with her husband and their two children, travelling and shopping.
