Staff retention through good software

Your practice management system could be a make-or-break when it comes to keeping your best employees.

It’s no secret that in the highly-competitive law industry – and especially for firms in main centres – attracting and retaining talent can be a real challenge.

Lawyers talk – and if your staff find out they could be getting a better deal somewhere else, chances are they’ll move.

A better practice management system could be one of those reasons, especially when it comes to millennials.

The millennial generation (aged around 18-35) are shown to express little loyalty to their current employers.

The 2016 Deloitte Millennial Survey (which covered more than 7700 full-time workers, born after 1982, living in 29 countries around the globe) showed many are planning to move jobs in the near future.

The survey showed that 66% of millennials expected to leave their current employment within 5 years, and 44% expect to leave within two years.

Reasons cited included being overlooked for leadership positions, not being developed within their roles, and the businesses’ investment and use of technology (or lack of).

Men were more likely to consider the investment and use of technology when deciding who to work for, but both genders agreed it was incredibly important to get this right in the workplace.

The results could well be magnified when looking at the law industry, especially as firms become more reliant on technology for their day-to-day business. 

To put it a little more bluntly: If your staff are battling frustrating and complicated systems all day, they’re not going to stick around long. Simple as that.
